The Hulme Hippodrome opened in 1901 and hosted celebs like The Beatles and Nina Simone.

Movie legends Laurel and Hardy also performed at the 3,000-seater Manchester venue.

The venue operated as a theatre until the late 1960s but by the early 1970s, it had switched to hosting bingo and snooker.

But after 87 years the Grade II-listed building closed in 1988 and fell into dangerous disrepair.

The hippodrome was later purchased by the Gilbert Deya Ministries – a controversial group affiliated to preacher Gilbert Deya.

He is infamous for promising “miraculous pregnancies” in his bizarre sermons.

The venue was later overrun with squatters and sold in 2021 to a property developer.

The bar features original fittings and garishly bright wallpaper while old school beer bottles stand covered in dust.

Elsewhere, 80s TVs and original plumping remain in a funky bathroom which could do with a clean.

Vintage carpets run throughout the time capsule space but the stage curtains have collapsed.

Unfortunately, water ingress has made some parts of the hippodrome dangerous and at risk of collapse.

The Hulme Hippodrome was once photographed by engineer and urban explorer Adam Slater who said his main concern was safety.

He ventured inside the venue as part of a UK tour of abandoned theatres.

Mr Slater said: “Nearly every town and city in the UK had at least one hiding away.

“The Hippodrome was always one of the “top targets” but it took quite a few years to finally get inside.”

The cost of refurbishing the Hippodrome would be in the region of £20million, estimates suggest.
